Rowing During COVID-19

Due to COVID-19, many activities of the current season have been modified to ensure the safety of all participants.   Updates will be provided as more information is available.

COVID-19 Precautions

  • Participants must wear masks on land at all times.

  • Foot Traffic Patterns are One Way on Ramps and Around Small Boathouse at ACBA.

  • There is a limited/reduced of number of total people permitted at ACBA at one time.

  • Only Small Boats will be used until  futher notice. (No Eights or Fours, optional doubles with restrictions)

  • All equipment must be disinfected after each session.

  • PARTICIPANTS CANNOT ATTEND PRACTICE IF YOU HAVE HAD A FEVER OVER 100.4 DEGREES OR COVID-19 RELATED SYMPTOMS IN THE PAST 14 DAYS

Reminders About Practices

  • During Spring season, practice will be at the Anacostia Community Boathouse – team is bused to practice  http://www.anacostiaboathouse.org/

  • Read more about Fall Crew practice schedule

  • Practice during the week: Monday - Friday (@4 pm- 7 pm with study hall prior)

  • NOTE: You will miss the late bus home from Wakefield. Make plans now as to how you will get home!

  • Saturday practice: until bus transportation can be arranged, parents will need to arrange transportation to Saturday practice. Watch for emails for start times.

  • Practices are mandatory once season starts.  You must email your coach if you are going to miss a practice. Unexcused absence means the rower will not row in the regatta that weekend.

  • Spring Break includes two a day practices in morning and afternoon and are required. Varsity rowers are aware of this. Novices, if your parents already made Spring Break travel plans for you, talk to the coach.

  • Dressing for practice - prepare for cold weather or rain or heat/sun, layers (Underarmor, long pants, no loose pants), must have sneakers every day, extra socks are important, cross training if we can’t get on the water

  • Fueling - read up on proper nutrition in fueling for races and workouts with this presentation: Nutrition For Rowers: Fueling Workouts & Races by Lauren Trocchio, RD, CSSD, CSOWM, LD (PDF)
